What are #Capers?

Capers* are the edible flower buds of the caper bush. These flower buds or caper berries are pickled after picking and delicious to eat, often added to smoked salmon or tuna dishes.

Capers are very healthy since they contain vitamin K, iron, riboflavin and polyphenols. Read more about it at *.

You can buy capers in small jars.

I used a ready to use pizza crust and put my toppings on it. So easy.

But you might want to make you own pizza dough. An example of how to make your own pizza dough is below.

Ingredients for one Tuna Pizza:

  • pizza crust ready to use with 8 servings (like Boboli Original Crust)

  • 3 tablespoons tomato paste with salt, pepper, oregano and basil

  • 1 big yellow onion, thinly sliced

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

  • 1/3 cup sliced black olives

  • 2 garlic gloves, crushed

  • ginger, 1/2 inch, grated

  • 1 or 2 tablespoons capers

  • 1 cup mozzarella, grated plus 1/2 cup mixed cheese like parmesan or Cheddar

  • 1 small can of tuna (net 170 g)

Preparations:

pre-heat oven at 450 degrees Fahrenheit or 220 degrees Celsius

heat olive oil in frying pan and fry onion until tender, add pepper and salt to taste

mix oregano, basil, garlic, ginger and salt and pepper to taste with the tomato paste

spread this tomato paste mix on the pizza crust

add black olives, capers and fried onion

add tuna pieces

add grated cheese

place in oven on a pizza rack and bake for around 10-12 minutes

Enjoy your pizza night!

  • when the oven is ready, put 1 or 2 tablespoons flour on a clean counter surface

  • put the dough on it and roll it with a pizza roller until a nice round pizza shape

  • put your own toppings on the pizza dough
